Our partners
The I3S Association brings together three institutes and researchers from various departments at the University of Porto, thus consolidating wide-ranging collaboration among all the institutions over many years.
The long-term collaboration between the IBMC, the INEB, and the IPATIMUP – the three founding institutes of I3S – includes joint projects, co-supervision of doctoral students, the shared use of large equipment, and the employment of research staff under coordinated policies. Six schools at the University of Porto (FMUP, ICBAS, FMDUP, FCUP, FEUP. and FFUP) and three hospitals (CH S João, CH Porto, and IPO) also contribute to I3S’s activities. This broad participation of schools, research institutions, and hospitals in a research institute is unique in Portugal. It constitutes a valuable asset for developing science and technology while also creating an environment that fuels truly ground-breaking research and the translation of discoveries to the clinic.
In addition, the building where I3S is based is also a key part of creating this vibrant environment for research.
